Pakistan Squad Revival for T20I Series Against New Zealand – Exciting Cricket News

Cricket Comeback: Amir and Imad Recalled to Pakistan’s T20I Squad for New Zealand Series

In a significant move, fast bowler Mohammad Amir and left-arm spinner Imad Wasim have been recalled to the 17-member Pakistan squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, starting on April 18th. The 10-day series will feature three games in Rawalpindi and two games in Lahore, providing cricket enthusiasts with thrilling “100-ball cricket live” action.

Amir, who had previously faced spot-fixing charges and even served jail time in England, last played international cricket in 2020 before announcing his retirement to focus on T20 leagues. His decision to call it quits was attributed to differences with former coaches Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis. However, the selectors have now welcomed him back, with selector Mohammad Yousuf expressing confidence in Amir’s ability to “continue his upward trajectory” and prove himself worthy of the team’s trust.

Imad Wasim, a spin all-rounder, had also retired from international cricket in November 2023 but has now reversed his decision after persuasion from the board and selectors. The selectors were impressed by his productive performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where his team emerged victorious.

The selection committee, comprising Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Wahab Riaz, and Bilal Afzal, emphasized that those who have consistently performed have been rewarded. They have also called up uncapped batters Usman Khan and Irfan Khan Niazi, as well as spinner Abrar Ahmed, to the squad.

“Even our religion allows for a second chance, and the decision to include Amir was based on his impressive performances in various T20 leagues and the need to manage the workload of all pace bowlers.”

The selection process for this series has also seen a shift, with the team selection being made through majority voting for the first time in Pakistan’s cricket history. Previously, the chief selector had the final say, but now the captain, head coach, and a data analyst are also part of the selection committee.

The New Zealand squad coming for the series will be missing several key players, including Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and others, who are either engaged in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or English county cricket or have taken a break, providing an opportunity for the Pakistan team to showcase their talent in front of their home crowd and cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
