Essex Move Closer to Division One Leaders Surrey After Crushing Kent at Canterbury
Essex moved just two points behind Vitality County Championship Division One leaders Surrey after a convincing victory over Kent at Canterbury. The hosts were skittled for a mere 101 in their second innings, with Simon Harmer and Shane Snater leading the charge for the visitors.
Harmer picked up 4-32, while Snater finished with 3-15 as Essex triumphed by an innings and 96 runs. Kent were already 197 runs behind heading into the final day, and their struggles continued as England opener Zak Crawley was dismissed early by Snater. Harmer then proceeded to inflict further damage, dismissing Ben Compton and Marcus O’Riordan, with Kent’s wickets tumbling in steady fashion.
“The result sees Essex closing in on Surrey at the top of the Division One table, showcasing their strength in the club cricket landscape. This victory will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they pursue the Vitality County Championship title.”
Elsewhere, the final day of the matches between Lancashire and Warwickshire, as well as Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire, were impacted by the weather, resulting in draws. In Division Two, the clash between Middlesex and Sussex also ended in a stalemate, while Northamptonshire’s Ricardo Vasconcelos put up a valiant effort but couldn’t prevent a draw against Yorkshire.
