In a remarkable comeback, Rishabh Pant has been selected in India’s squad for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup, just 16 months after a near-fatal car crash that left him with facial injuries. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman underwent plastic surgery following the collision in northern India in December 2022, but has since made a remarkable recovery and returned to competitive cricket last month.
Pant, who captained the Delhi Capitals in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL), has been in impressive form, scoring 398 runs in 11 innings at a blistering strike rate of 158.56. His inclusion in the 15-man squad, alongside fellow wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who is making his World Cup debut at the age of 29, underscores the depth of India’s cricketing talent.
The squad announcement has generated considerable excitement among cricket enthusiasts, particularly with the inclusion of veteran wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was a surprising addition despite not being utilized in the recent 50-over World Cup hosted by India. Chahal, the only bowler to have taken 200 wickets in IPL history, has showcased his skills with 13 wickets in nine IPL games this season.

India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland, followed by highly anticipated matches against rivals Pakistan, tournament hosts the USA, and Canada.
