Jofra Archer’s Triumphant England Return Excites Close Friend Chris Jordan
Edgbaston, September 24 – Jofra Archer’s long-awaited comeback to the England team was a “goosebumps moment” for his close friend and teammate Chris Jordan, who believes Archer’s return will bring a “different-level mood” to the team’s T20 World Cup defence next month.
Archer’s impressive performance in the 23-run victory against Pakistan on Saturday, where he shook off a rusty first over to finish with figures of 2 for 13, served as a poignant reminder of his slippery pace and deceptive short ball. Jordan, who played a crucial role in the series-opening win with a wicket and two athletic catches, was thrilled to witness Archer’s comeback.
“It gave me goosebumps to see him take that wicket,” said Jordan. “In the last six months, I’ve seen a shift in his vibe and his mindset. He seemed really happy stepping on the field. He might not have looked it, but I bet he was quite nervous.”
Jordan believes Archer’s return will have a significant impact on the team, with opposing batsmen immediately wary of his ability to deliver the bouncer.
“It’s a different-level mood. Every batsman that came out, they were thinking about the bouncer straight away. That in itself adds a different dynamic to the bowling attack, and some good variety as well. I think we’ve got a good mix. Hopefully, we can keep building on it.”
Archer’s 14-month injury layoff, which he described as a “hamster wheel,” has tested his resilience, and Jordan has been there to support him through the darker days.
“At times you can say too much; get a bit repetitive. Because you care, you try to check in as much as possible. Other times, he probably needed to do the journey himself, find his own way, find his own mentality. To be honest, he’s done a lot of it on his own.”
The second T20 against Pakistan follows on Tuesday in Cardiff, as England continue their preparations for the T20 World Cup, with their group-stage opener against Scotland scheduled for June 4 in Barbados.
