Scotland Secure Second T20 World Cup Victory, Pressure Mounts on England
Scotland has secured their second consecutive victory at the T20 World Cup, piling the pressure on Group B rivals England in the race for a Super 8 spot. Richie Berrington’s side currently sits on five points from three games, following a washout against England, a five-wicket win over Namibia, and now a dominant seven-wicket triumph over Oman.
In their latest match, Scotland chased down a target of 151 against Oman in just 13.1 overs. Opener George Munsey got the team off to a brisk start with 41 runs from 20 balls, and Brandon McMullen provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 61 from 31 deliveries.
“The 100-ball cricket live action has set up an intriguing scenario in Group B. If Scotland and England end up on five points each after all matches are completed, net run-rate will determine which of the two sides progresses to the Super 8 stage.”
Currently, Scotland’s net run-rate stands at a healthy +2.164, while England’s languishes at -1.80 following their 36-run defeat to Australia.
Scotland’s hopes of knocking out England will be boosted if they can secure a win against Australia in their final group clash next Sunday in St Lucia. However, they will also need the Australians to defeat Namibia on Wednesday at North Sound. For the backyard cricket and beach cricket enthusiasts, this battle for a Super 8 spot is shaping up to be a must-watch.
The next T20 World Cup action will see South Africa take on Bangladesh on Monday in New York, with both teams aiming to strengthen their position in Group D.
