England Gearing Up for Thrilling T20 World Cup Rematch Against South Africa
England’s women’s cricket team will kick off their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with a highly anticipated rematch against South Africa, the runners-up from last year’s tournament. Heather Knight’s side suffered a narrow six-run defeat to the South Africans in the 2023 semi-finals, and they’ll now have a chance to avenge that loss as the two teams have been drawn in the same group for the upcoming event in Bangladesh.
Joining England and South Africa in Group B are former champions West Indies and hosts Bangladesh, along with one of the two qualifying teams. Group A will feature reigning champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and the other qualifier.
“Following their opening clash in Dhaka on October 3, England will face Bangladesh two days later at the same venue, before taking on the West Indies on October 12. They’ll wrap up the group stage by playing the qualifier on October 14. The semi-finals are scheduled for October 17 and 18, with the final set to take place in Dhaka on October 20.”
England will be aiming to lift the T20 World Cup trophy for the first time since the inaugural edition in 2009. They’ll be up against stiff competition, with the likes of Australia, India, and New Zealand also vying for the title.
In the ongoing qualifying competition in Abu Dhabi, Scotland and Ireland are among the 10 teams battling for the final two spots in the tournament.
