Suryakumar Yadav’s Brilliant Fifty Guides India to Comfortable Victory over Afghanistan in T20 World Cup
At the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, India secured a convincing 47-run win over Afghanistan in the Super 8s stage of the T20 World Cup. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, India posted a commanding total of 181-8, thanks to a brilliant 27-ball fifty from Suryakumar Yadav.
Despite Afghanistan’s bowlers, led by Rashid Khan (3-26) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (3-33), restricting India to 90-4 in the first 10 overs, Suryakumar’s heroics, which included five boundaries and three sixes, propelled India to a strong finish.
“Suryakumar’s innings was a crucial turning point in the match, as it allowed India to post a competitive total despite the early setbacks,” said a cricket analyst.
In response, Afghanistan’s batters struggled to form a match-winning partnership, with India’s bowlers, particularly Jasprit Bumrah (3-7) and Arshdeep Singh (3-36), dismantling the opposition lineup. Afghanistan were eventually dismissed for 134 all out, losing their final five wickets for just 32 runs.
The win takes India to the top of the Group 1 table with two points, while Afghanistan occupy the second spot. Rohit Sharma’s side are seeking their first T20 World Cup triumph since 2007, and this convincing victory over Afghanistan has further bolstered their chances.
